TAN'YIKA ALBUM "THE THEORY OF LOVE" IS OUT NOW!!!

Tanyika, who has been working with Lord Itill for the past 3 years - her first project with him being volume 3 of LIBBs: Business, Bulls*t & Good times.

This sexy R&B vocalist nurtured her love of music by performing in several vocal groups starting at the age of 12.

While she was a part of the vocal group, she performed on Amateur Night at the Apollo, dabbled in modeling, and briefly worked with the legendary Grandmaster Flash and Mr. Broadway.

The experience provided the foundation for her to not only become business savvy, but it also assisted her in developing her niche in this industry.

Notably, Tanyika has written and recorded songs for artists on Cutting Records, she’s worked with Bernard Wright, sang background vocals for Jazz artist Bimshi, and has also lent her vocals to Capital Records, Def Jam and Virgin.

Her next stamp in the R&B pavement will be the album, Theory of Love, in which Lord Itill has produced all 12 tracks. With the combination of Tanyika’s vocal prowess, lyrical style and Itill’s brilliant production, this album is the proverbial sure shot.

Chosan asks Kanye to "Tell me something"

Chosan asks Kanye to "Tell me something" Sierra Leone's Chosan speaks from behind the scenes of his collaboration on the Diamonds from Sierra Leone video.

NY, NY, September 27, 2007 - It's been a few years since Kanye West's video Diamonds from Sierra Leone debuted on BET. 2 years to be exact.

And while the video was hailed as a pivotal moment in the African blood diamonds controversy, one artist's part in giving authenticity to the project has been snubbed.

Chosan, the Sierra Leonean hip-hop artist whose voice can be heard narrating the popular video in his native tongue, is expressing his concerns about Kanye West's motives in the only way he knows how; through a new song titled  Kanye, tell me something produced by Lord Itill.

The days leading up to and after the making of the video for Kanye West's Diamonds from Sierra Leone are still fresh in the mind of Sierra Leone's Chosan.

One moment he was going through the daily hustle of New York City's hip-hop scene, and the next moment he was being called upon to rush to meet Kanye West at Sony studios in Manhattan. To lend his talents and authenticity to a recording session by the soon to be Grammy Award winning artist.

But while the prospect of contributing to a project which addressed the exploitation of his homeland and his people seemed like a good idea at first, Chosan was left feeling exploited himself.

Having given his time and talents to collaborate with another would-be socially conscious artist, Kanye West, to date Chosan, the only African to work on the video, has received absolutely no credit whatsoever from the video which has gone on to be seen by millions on television and online.

The irony of the song Diamonds from Sierra Leone and related video is that the only African who contributed to the project about the exploitation of African talent and resources, has himself been exploited.

Over the years Chosan has remained silent for fear of looking like an opportunist but he is now voicing his concerns in the song  Kanye, tell me something.

The new song shows the perspective of an African artist who has spent years navigating the New York City music scene. Chosan's struggles from escaping death after being hit by a car early in his career to making a living in the foreign streets of Brooklyn, New York has given him a unique perspective on life.

From the release of his soulful debut CD  The Beautiful Side of Misery, to his song Blood Diamond penned as part of the recent "Bling is Dead" campaign, Chosan's has always been focused on education.

As Chosan says in the song Kanye, tell me somethin,  "This is not a beef thing".

For him it's about educating people when they go astray. Kanye, tell me somethin is produced by Lord Itill and is available as a free download.

[Annansi News] Bling is Dead!

Happy Holidays all! Yes we're a little early, but I just wanted to tell you that in case you don't hear from us during the holidays.

What have we been up to you ask? Well.... Bling is Dead! Bling is Dead! That's our motto for the holiday season.

In fall of 2005 Annansi launched the Demand Details! initiative at the H2O Film Festival along with director Kareem Edouard's Bling: Repercussions and Consequences.

The Demand Details! initiative continues this fall with the Bling is Dead project featuring Sierra Leonean mc Chosan.

In the year (imagine that) since we began the initiative on educating everyone about the effects of illicit diamond mining in Africa, there's been some progress but not enough as far as we're concerned.

With 70% of the world's diamonds originating in Africa and only 10% of the profits making it's way back to the continent, the diamond industry continues to add insult to injury.

As Annansi's efforts continue behind the scenes, we've partnered with another future star, Chosan, who has released a song "Blood Diamonds" featuring Augi and produced by Lord Itill of LIBB productions.

As most of you know Chosan was called in by Kanye West to lend his authenticity to the "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" video which put the spotlight on hip-hop's obsession with the same diamonds which Africans are dying for.

With Chosan lending his talents to our Bling is Dead project we're continuing to send a message that Africans ARE helping themselves.

We've also released the Bling is Dead t-shirt as part of the project. Listen to the soulful track and learn what you need to know to make sure you are not supporting the exploitative business practices of the diamond manufacturers at www.BlingisDead.org.

You can also join the movement at

Spring/Summer 2006 NY Fashion Week Not one to let NY Fashion Week go by without any African flavor. Annansi Clothing Co. previewed a few pieces from it's upcoming women's line (yes it's coming) at the Chelsea Studios on September 8th.

In support of our friends at Sofistafunk Skirt Co., we spent the day meeting and greeting the fashion press and public alike and giving them a taste of our African-inspired streetwear.

The pieces were well received and we got some appetites wet for what's to come. Thanks to celebrity photographer Rowena Husbands, we've got some pictures from the event are on our flickr site.
